5th Grade Beginning Drum Policy

Dear Parents,

  After careful consideration, we, the band directors, made a decision concerning beginning drums in 5th grade band only.

 

It is our observation that beginning drum students miss out on the crucial instruction of reading music.  Our plan is to offer only wind instruments until later on in the year where we will allow students to switch later in the year, or take turns playing the percussion throughout the year.  This is our first year of the policy and we will review it at the end of the year.

The three main instruments that students will be able to learn are

 

Þ                   the snare drum,

 

Þ                   the bass drum,

 

Þ                   and the bells.

 

Instruments will be provided by the District for Percussion.
