Tahoma Education Association

representing dedicated quality professionals

The Association and District have a variety of services available to Teacher Assistance Programs.  Our Association provides help with Grievances, Disciplinary Actions Against Teachers and Needs Improvement Issues.

Teacher Assistance

A grievance is a complaint by an employee that an action by administration is inconsistent with the agreed understanding that is found in our Negotiated Agreement.

The person filing the grievance has 30 working days to file the grievance from the time of the event.

Grievances are written by:

1. The Claim

2. The Event

3. How the Event is inconsistent with the terms of the contract—citing the language/and/or practice;

4. The relief—how you want to be made whole.

Grievances

Disciplinary Action is an act taken against a teacher by the district which could involve a third party for violations of building policy, district policy, state policy, or criminal activity.

Disciplinary actions could lead to corrections to teachers such as written reprimands, suspensions without pay, and dismissal.

Also, disciplinary actions can take place through the State Board—PTPC.

Disciplinary Action can also occur for Certification lapsing resulting in dismissal.

Insubordination—the act of not complying with a direct order or direction, can be corrected with dismissal.

Disciplinary Action

This is an evaluation process where your teaching has been determined not to meet district and state standards.  You still have the right to have association assistance, the responsibility is to meet teaching standards.  This is not a disciplinary action or grievance action unless policy is not followed.

Needs Improvement

Grievances are not just simply arguments that you might have with Administration or Staff
